Should you start your own micro SaaS in 2024?

As we're gearing up for 2024, I'm seriously considering creating a Micro SaaS. It's an area with potential for someone with both software engineering skills and an entrepreneurial mindset, and I think it's high time to test the waters.

I'm particularly drawn to the unique advantages of Micro SaaS: the lower initial costs in time and money and the ability to focus more on a specific niche. Hopefully, I can fill a gap that larger companies might miss.

Ideas? Plenty are swirling around in my head. Maybe an automated content curation platform or tool to help freelancers manage their workload and clients more efficiently? We’ll see.

Regarding the technical side, I know I need to be strategic. I’ve seen too many teams flounder because they chose fashionable tech, not the one that was sustainable and cost-effective in the long run. So, I’m going with a NextJs stack, possibly with some Go micro-services.

The first step will be defining a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). It's all about producing a workable product with the minimum necessary features, gathering feedback, and refining it. Launching is just the beginning… but we’re not quite there yet.

The journey into the Micro SaaS world seems like a perfect blend of technical challenge and entrepreneurial spirit. It's not just about building a software product; it's about creating an experience that resonates with me and those using what I’ve created. I look forward to delving into this, learning, growing, and hopefully, succeeding. And who knows, maybe I can document the journey with a few videos 😄

This week’s gem

To illustrate my article about OpenAI, I was floundering about trying to code a component that would fetch X/Twitter content and display it on the board. And I came across a library by Vercel called React Tweet. And it does what it says on the box. As I was using it in a TailwindCSS-powered blog article typography, I had to wrap it in a div with a no-prose class, but once that was done, it was easy
